Coal Mine Museum



Located atop a serene low hill, this museum appears tiny at first glance.
However, stepping inside, you are greeted by amazing displays including Japan's largest (about 6 tons) piece of lump coal, and a faithfully re-created working environment, complete with model mine tunnel and extraction machinery - truly impressive sights of a mining town.
This lesser-known spot is essential for a complete understanding of Kushiro's history.
Exhibition hall introducing the history of the former Pacific coal mine and the state of coal mining.
A facility where you can see the state of a large scale marine coal mine such as a simulated tunnel, a mine locomotive car, a tunnel excavator and so on.
