The Site of Temiya Line

It was made to ship Hokkaido coal from Otaru Port.
Between Temiya and Sapporo, and Sapporo and Horonai (now Mikasa).
It became an abolished line with the decline of coal.

There was an important industrial time for coal in Hokkaido.
Large quantities were dug up and taken to the port by rail.
Otaru played an important role as an outport of the coal, and it may be said that this Temiya Line is a monument to it.
