Matsumae Clan Mansion

It is reproducing the clan residence of the Matsumae clan who was appointed from the Tokugawa shogunate for Hokkaido control (all 14 buildings).

The herring fishery in Hokkaido brings unprecedented wealth to unprecedented coastal areas.

The word “Matsumae” of Matsumae Peninsula, at the south end of Hokkaido, derives from the Matsumae family (feudal military commanders) who governed the area during the Edo period (1603-1868).


July through August is your chance to see the "floating hydrangeas".
There are 2,000 of these colorful hydrangeas floating in the pond!
